“Broadly, I am concerned with iterations of connectedness - the threads of substance that exist

daily amongst communities and between individual relationships with our environment, personal

values and one another. I see contemporary art as a platform for examining and facilitating worldly

and daily connectedness; whilst questioning established narratives surrounding environment,

culture, gender and the politics of privilege. My practice is an endeavour in creative sustainability,

to create art and work which personally satisfies. In sharing my work I aim for small resolutions to

self prescribed problems. Ultimately my work is a celebration of and dedication to this world.”

Tilley Wood is an emerging artist whose work spans painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation

and performance art. She undertook Extensive Studio Practice majoring in life drawing at the

National Art School, Darlinghurst; and graduated with distinction from the University of Newcastle

NSW in 2016 with a Bachelor of Natural History Illustration. Since then, her studio practice has

solidified in contemporary art as a self taught oil painter, as well as sharing a collaborative

performance led practice with Sharifah Emalia Al-Gadrie.

Growing up in the spotted gum bush of regional south coast NSW, Tilley’s creativity is grounded in

a strong sense of community, family and the natural landscape. Her individual practice explores the

subjective dialogue between artist, subject and work; using paintings to manifest otherwise private

or intangible personal connections to light, landscape, community and self. The emotional qualities

of her subjects hope to connect more broadly to audiences beyond her immediate context and

engage with current conversations of her generation. She is particularly drawn to examining

personal comfort and languages of self care, as well as the politics of gender, art and society

through the lens of intersectional fourth-wave feminism.

Tilley has exhibited across NSW and Tasmania in collaborative and group shows, and is finalist of

the Henry Jones Art Prize, the RACT Tasmanian Portrait Prize and the Bay of Fires Art Prize. Her

work is held in private collections both nationally and abroad.
